Charly PAYARD, french artist living in Champagne (Haute-Marne)

Born in 1972, professor of visual arts to the college, interested by the current forms of art: installations, video, photography plastician… and painting.

I work with acrylic painting: stencil key sets, torn canvas and sawed in the disorder, material joinings integrated into painting, or simple enlargings of images.

My step :

To make emerge emotion by a visual shock = contrast in all its forms: white black/, well done/badly made, figurative/abstract, precision/absence of details…: to remove superfluity, the anecdotic one, to keep only essence, “the bone” of the image.

I divert images shock, which function already: photographs of artists, films violent one, images of press, data base, logos, pubs, texts, recadrés, increased, isolated from their context to show “what me not” (Roland Barthes) and to still accentuate what “goes” in the image.

My preferred sentence :

“beautiful as the fortuitous meeting of a sewing machine and an umbrella (in french : beau comme la rencontre fortuite d’une machine à coudre et d’un parapluie)” (Lautréamont) = to join together what is opposed, which does not have “anything to see”.

Preferred artists :

John Baldessari, Yan-Pei Ming, Paolo Gioli, Claude Closky, John Virtue, Raymond Hains, Gerhart Richter, Bill Violated, Rauschenberg, Basquiat, Miquel Barcelo… lives the ecclectism.

My course :

 1990-91 : Beautiful arts of Sète. Meet with Yan-Pei ming, artist-speaker, who made me paint with large brushes to oblige me to remove me from the superfluous details.
 1991-93 : National School of art of Dijon. Meet with Orlan, which gave courses of “performance”: We were to create artistic events in the street and to film them. Run of painting with Daniel Metzger and photograph with John Batho.
 1995-2000 : FAC. visual arts of Strasbourg. CAPES “visual arts”
 2001-2002 : trainee teacher with Broque (the Low-Rhine).
 2002-2005 : professor of visual arts in Pontfaverger-Moronvilliers (the Marne).

Projects :

Installation which mixes painting, video and sculpture, on the topic of the cinema: painted image (fabric) /image of film to the idle (video), objects cinematographic.
